About Us
The Power and Value of Play
Philosophy
Our basic premise is that children learn through play. We generate research, knowledge, and learning in a space where children are inspired to facilitate their own learning in new and engaging ways. This centre is designed as a stimulating and collaborative environment shared by Memorial University Childcare educators, pre-service teachers, and the children who participate. It provides a shared learning opportunity to support children’s uses of their own imaginations. Through this centre, children can expand their creativity and curiosity, which builds strong foundations for future learning journeys inside and outside of the classroom.

Our Methods
Pre-service teachers engage with children through experiential learning activities that explore how informed pedagogical approaches can engage children to think creatively and critically about their world. We believe that the rich learning landscape provided through pre-service teachers' training in our faculty enhances a child’s early literacy beginnings. Play worlds of children need to be supported and are essential for a child’s social and cognitive growth and for them to become active citizens who are engaged in our future world.
